![]() ![]() I’ve complied a short list of some Napa Valley winery reservations worth making. Not just for the experience or the tour but also the types of wines that are available, which may include reserve wines or a more private, limited quantity of wines you won’t find else where. Meaning you can easily be spontaneous with your Napa Valley wine tastings…but there are some Napa Valley wineries where reservations are soooo worth making. However, 300+ Napa Valley wineries do not require appointments. There are more than 500 wineries, 285 of these Napa Valley wineries are open to the public by appointment, in other words you have to make a reservation. When it comes to wine tasting in Napa Valley, you can easily sip your way through the valley with zero reservations. ![]() However, when it comes to winery tours and tastings, being open and spontaneous won’t always get you into wineries you want to visit. Those unplanned days tend to result in some of the best experiences. Don’t get me wrong, I still love to make plans and map out things but as my kids have gotten older I’ve been able to “loosen the reigns” and let things be a little more spontaneous…as spontaneous as you can be with two kids. The older I’ve gotten the more non-committal I’ve become, especially when I travel. NOTE: It’s common for folks to book tours in more than one region. There are some Napa Valley wine tasting reservations worth making… The most celebrated grape varietal is Petit Sirah, but many others are also grown here. Suisun Valley: Tucked right over the ridge from the City of Napa, this emerging wine region is made up of rolling hills, an intimate valley, and the type of family farmhouse wineries that were most common in the Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley many years ago.Russian River, Dry Creek, and Alexander Valley are located here. Red Zinfandel is the wine for which this region is renowned, but local Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are celebrated as well. The climate here is significantly influenced by the Pacific Ocean, which isn’t far away. North Sonoma: Characterized by lush, gentle hills and charming country roads & bridges.Glen Ellen and Kenwood are here, as well as the western side of Carneros. This area is most widely known for Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, though several other varietals are available. Sonoma: Known for its rolling hills and rustic oak trees, along with a very charming town plaza, complete with one of California’s famed Franciscan missions.Helena, and Calistoga are all located here. Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay are also widely available here. Cabernet Sauvignons are among the world’s finest. Napa: Famed for dramatic scenery, with many vistas of rugged mountains and forested hills. We find compelling smaller and family-owned wineries to visit, no matter which tour area you choose. VIBE: All of the regions are very charming and picturesque, and while each has its own subtle characteristics, there are also many similarities. WINE VARIETAL: Many different varietals are poured in each of the regions, but some are known for some in particular (noted below) Guests staying in other regions will drive in and meet the tour at a central location (exception: we are happy to pick up from most city of Napa lodging locations for either our Napa tour or our Sonoma tour) Our tours pick up from most lodging in the region of that tour. PROXIMITY: Most of our guests look to take whichever Join-in tour is closest to where they are staying. ![]()
